Skypes servers are down: Service Unavailable

Well if you are a big follower of tech trends, you would of recently hear that Microsoft acquired the very popular voip service skype for a cool $8billion. Not a bad exit for the Skype's previous owners. However, with only timings that the gods could predict, Skype is down. The service is currently unavailable across the globe. Already the infamous jokes about Microsoft and its history or not delivering on products from companies they have purchased.

Now we are not currently aware of what the issue is but if you visit skypes website you will get this error message:

Looks like our server is down. This usually means that we're doing
maintenance work or there are too many visitors at skype.com and we
cannot cope with the popularity. In any case - we're already fixing it
and everything should be back to normal in a few minutes.

But still have a shameless plug to download and install the skype software. Hopefully the downtime will not last for too long as the media and blogs are already laughing at Microsoft, not something they need.
