Analyst Programmer / Web Developer

This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Analyst Programmer, competency level 2, position for Ecampus at Oregon State University (OSU).

This is a limited duration classified position anticipated to last 18 months.

The front-end web developer (analyst programmer, competency level 2) is a classified position within OSU Ecampus. The front-end web developer provides programming and multimedia support for OSU Ecampus programmatic and course needs. The multimedia team is part of the Course Development and Training (CDT) unit within the division of Ecampus. The CDT unit provides expertise and support for the development of online and hybrid courses, including instructional design services, innovative multimedia development, and faculty development programming and support. This position reports directly to the assistant director of CDT.

Within the CDT team, the front-end web developer will collaborate closely with other programmers on the multimedia web development team, instructional designers and faculty course developers to ensure high quality projects are produced. This position works closely and collaborates with faculty and administrators to assess how multimedia technologies can augment students’ abilities to meet course learning outcomes.

Position Duties
75% Application Design & Development

  • Designs, develops and maintains scalable applications created in modern web technologies (primarily, but not limited to React, Redux, CSS3, HTML5 and Javascript) to meet the expectations and needs of OSU Ecampus clients/users.
  • Develop front-end projects and components using modern web languages and patterns. Responds to cross-platform/browser compatibility issues. Develops applications with adaptive/responsive design, paying attention to mobile accessibility, end-user accessibility, and web standards.
  • Works as a member of the web development team to design and implement solutions to solve complex problems in Javascript applications used for online courses.
  • Designs and develops scripts with scalability and reusability in mind.
  • Responsible for designing, writing and implementing testing processes (automated and non-automated).
  • Responsible for documentation of any scripts, functions, tools, or integrations developed.
  • Reviews web applications and modules that have been developed for online courses with content experts and CDT team members involved in the project.
    10% Research and Assessment
  • Researches and develops methods and technology that leverage media in improving instruction, knowledge transfer, and learner retention of information.
  • Identifies emerging technologies and resources that can be used to enhance and improve the quality and completion rate of media projects.
  • Assesses and evaluates the effectiveness of technological components and products. Researches and suggests improvements to current processes and tools.
    10% Troubleshooting and Support
  • Troubleshoots web applications to resolve issues and diagnose technical problems that affect the work of OSU Ecampus’ clients/users.
  • Assists with troubleshooting problems for end-users.
    5% Professional Development and Service
  • Serves as a member of OSU Ecampus teams as assigned. Provides service to OSU and the land grant system by working on departmental, division, university, regional and national committees and projects, serving as a representative of OSU Ecampus and the CDT team.
  • Participates as a member of the CDT team by attending meetings, participating in team decision making, implementing solutions to team challenges as a member of the multimedia team, and assisting with other team functions. Service may include other duties as assigned to support and provide back up the CDT team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • This classification requires a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in systems analysis and related programming support functions generally obtained by a bachelor’s degree in computer science, or an equivalent amount of training and applied experience.

  • This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

  • Experience working with React and Redux
  • Experience with source control / version control systems (such as Git)
  • Experience working with Node.js as a backend language
  • Experience with Serverless/AWS (Amazon Web Services)
  • Experience with dependency and task management (npm, yarn)
  • Experience with mobile accessibility and responsive design
  • Experience integrating with APIs (REST)
  • Experience with universal design for learning.
  • Experience with Agile (scrum, kanban)
  • Experience working with a diverse group of people/teams.
